I have read the book. And I believe that you saying that the authors delineated their ideas with "boldness, humility and grace," is far-fetched. Filled with boldness it was. Filled with humility and grace it was not. It was inflammatory and biased.

I read the book "Open Church" about 10 years ago with much enthusiasm, thinking that there was a chance of actually participating in a church service as a contributing member of the Body of Christ. Of course, the author stated that the pastor would be the one who had to be willing to "open it up" since he was the one in charge. I naively shared the book with the pastor, in a special meeting, summarized if for him, left the book with him, hoping he would see the beauty of "every member participating," and that it would soon come to pass. NOT!!! That's not the first time my idealistic yearnings have been dashed. So, we rocked along in church, until one day the Holy Spirit told my husband and then he told me, "This will be your last Sunday in church." He called us out to "sit at His feet." It was only then that we ran across others who had also been called out, including running across Frank Viola's articles about home church. We were not persuaded by man, but by God to "come out from among them." Then He confirmed that calling by letting us find out about others who He had also called. Just wanted to share that as you seek Him for your own life in asking, "where do I go from here?"

No I haven't read the book yet. Lauren is reading it now and I will start after she is done. :) I will most likely blog about it when I am finished.

I read Pagan Christianity some months ago, and I have come to pretty much the same conclusion as yourself.
While I may now have serious reservations about the institutional church, I am not called to attack it. Rather, I am to live out New Testament Christianity as best I know how. How that will work out is in the Lord's hands.

Hey Kevin!

Great to hear from you. Thanks for taking time to read the post. Have you read the book yet? I'd be very interested in your thoughts and reactions.
