I just ran across another, much better written, article on the Pew report. Follow the link to read "Survey says, no more religion as usual" by Luanne Austin of the The Daily News Record in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Hi Tyler!

Thanks for stopping by to comment, and point out my keystroke error.

I appreciate your feedback. I would make a couple of responses. First, the "church" isn't whatever you want it to be, as you suggest. The church is what Jesus Christ (the head of the church) says that it is. The church is his. He gets to make the rules. And we do a very good job of breaking those rules.

My second response would be a rebuttal of your assumption that I am "casting stones" at Mr. Luscombe. His writing "style" is fine. But from an ecclesiastical point-of-view the content of his writing is inconsistent and inaccurate. Even the title of his article is misleading as he refers to the church transitions as a "losing of Christian faith." As I've pointed out here, the Pew report says nothing of Americans "losing their Christian faith." Instead, it reveals the trend of "Christians" choosing to no longer affiliate with the mainstream church institutions.

There is a great deal of difference between an accidental keystroke error, and an inconsistent representation of the facts.

But thanks again for pointing it out.

Have a great day and feel free to stop by and comment anytime.

Tyler James

The church is whatever you want it to be. For some people it's the bricks and mortar of the place they go to worship, for others it's the wider collective of followers and faiths, there's no 'correct' view either way. The Pew research facts, however, are indisputable - for whatever reason, people ARE becoming switched off from religion in its many different forms, and those in the Church, or church, (with or without the upper case C) should be alarmed by this.

I read the article in question. While I do have some issues with the (mis)interpretations the author makes, it's not poorly written by any means. If you're casting stones (and as a Christian, shouldn't that be what you're NOT meant to be doing!) about somebody's writing, take a look at the where the apostrophe should be in your own headline: 'American's Spurn Church'. Which American in particular are you referring to?
